10 Certifications to Boost your Nanny Resume

Although there is no formal training to become a nanny, there are many certifications you can obtain in order to become a more prepared and knowledgeable nanny. Here are 10 certifications that will help to strengthen your skill set and boost your resume!

  1. CPR & First Aid - Nashville Nanny Agency requires all of our candidates to be CPR certified. Accidents are unfortunately unavoidable. Knowing how to react quickly in emergency situations is so important in childcare. Being CPR and First Aid certified is one of the best ways to improve your resume.

  2. Water Safety Certification - Having your water safety certification will not only help you to play in or around water with your nanny child, it also teaches you skills to help during an emergency situation.

  3. Car Seat Basics - Most nanny positions require you to drive with the children. Whether you are driving them to school, sports/activities or just running errands, knowing basic car seat practices is so important. This 60 minute training will help you keep your nanny children safe as they grow.

  4. Infant Care Classes and Certifications - If you are looking for an infant nanny placement, becoming a Newborn Care Specialist is going to boost your resumes and chances of finding that placement.

  5. Professional Nanny Certification - This certification will make your resume more attractive to families and agencies. It shows your knowledge of the nanny career and what working in the industry entails.

  6. Nutrition and Cooking Classes - Although the expectations are not for a nanny to be a professional in the kitchen, it is great to show you have knowledge of what nutritional foods children should be eating and know how to prepare them.

  7. Early Childhood Education - Any early childhood education experience looks great on a resume. Knowing the ins and outs of childhood development and how to facilitate activities for the children's learning is a major plus.

  8. Safe Sleep Ambassador - Ensuring safe sleep is a very important part of the nanny job, especially if the children are younger. Being knowledgeable on crib safety and the do’s and don'ts of safe sleep will be extremely beneficial to you in your nanny career.

  9. Foreign Language Skills - Any experience with foreign language is a major plus. While we know not everyone is able to or has had the exposure to a foreign language, it can be a plus to add to your resume. It's also never too late to learn, you can learn with Rosetta Stone or any other online classes you find. This is something you can share with your nanny children to help expand their ever growing minds!

  10. Watch Me! Celebration Milestones and Sharing Concerns - This certification provides tools and practices for monitoring the development of children at all stages of their childhood. It also gives you skills for talking with their parents about their child's development and how to approach certain conversations.

*These certifications are not requirements to work with Nashville Nanny Agency (with the exception of CPR certification), but something that will help to strengthen your resume*
